First Home Buyers Grant

Dreaming of your first home? The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is a one-off, tax-free payment of $10,000 offered by the Western Australian Government to eligible first-time buyers. It's designed to assist with the costs of purchasing or building a new home.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident (or applying with someone who is).
  • Be a first-time home buyer who has not previously owned property or received the FHOG.
  • Be purchasing or building a new home in Western Australia *The FHOG is not available for established homes or investment properties.
  • Live in the home as your principal place of residence for a continuous period of at least six months, starting within 12 months of settlement or completion.

Eligible Properties:

  • Newly built homes that have never been occupied or sold as residential premises before.
  • Substantially renovated homes, provided the renovations are significant and meet specific criteria.

How to Apply:

  • Your lender or broker: Complete the application form and submit it with your home loan application. The lender will process the grant on your behalf.
  • RevenueWA: Apply directly via the RevenueWA Online Application Portal.

 *Note: If you're building a new home, the grant is typically paid at the first drawdown of funds. For established homes, it's paid after settlement.
